Welcome to 10th grade chemistry
2016-2017
Chemistry is all around us; from the products we use in our everyday lives to the food we consume on a daily basis. The elements that make up the periodic table have a profound influence on how we function and yet we know so little about them. This semester, we will look at the chemicals that make up common products we use in our everyday lives and analyze characteristics of those chemicals. We will also explore how exposure to certain chemicals can have an impact on our health. The overall goal is to have a healthy understanding of how chemistry influences our lives and use that understanding to improve the world in which we live.

Incoming students
I am very excited to meet and get to know you throughout the semester! My hope for the coming year is to cultivate a love for science through curiosity, investigation, experimentation and wondering.
We will go over the syllabus on the first day and also discuss supplies so you do not need to have any specific chemistry supplies until the beginning of the 2nd week.
This semester I will be using Google Classroom to post daily and/or weekly links to homework, reading assignments, etc. Students are encouraged to check Google Classroom daily. Please use the following link to sign up:
GOOGLE CLASSROOM
I will be asking each of you to sign up for an online program called REMIND. REMIND is a free, easy to use web based service that allows teachers to send quick reminders to a group of students and parents via text message or email. I don't send a lot of reminders since most information can be found on the Google Classroom site but I do find that it comes in handy around exhibition time and also before returning from a long break. Please use the following link below to sign up:

* Please note that standard text message rates do apply. If you or your parents are concerned about receiving text message reminders, please sign up for e-mail alerts instead.* I send about 1-2 messages per week.
